Bakhthang Falls, The Bakthang waterfall is only 20 minutes drive from Gangtok town to a place called Swastik, adjacent to the army cantonment area. A serene waterfalls cascades down the rock forming a small pool down below. It is located along the 31A National Highway connecting to North Sikkim. In local language ‘Bak’ means a forest and ‘thang’ meaning meadow or place. The natural spring water source of this falls originates from the dense vegetation above this site which is preserved as a Smriti Ban by the Forest Department.
Tashi Viewpoint, This charming little Tashi View Point is a perfect place to witness the brilliant surroundings like mountains, valleys and Gangtok itself. This famous tourist point is located at a distance of 8 km from the town and is mostly known for offering some of the best sunrise and sunset views. One can witness the changing of colours of the Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu Peaks as the sun slowly moves from this view point along with the glimpse famous monasteries of Gangtok, Phodong and Labrang.
Ganesh Tok, Ganesh Tok is a small Ganesh Temple located 7 km from Gangtok at an altitude of 6500 m and can accommodate just one person at a time and one has to crawl to reach there. But a panoramic view of the entire town of Gangtok, the Raj Bhavan complex and mount Kanchenjunga can be seen from here and makes for a breathtaking view.
Hanuman Tok, Hanuman Tok is a Hindu temple complex which is located in the upper reaches of Gangtok, the capital of the Indian state of Sikkim. The temple is dedicated to lord Hanuman, and maintained by the Indian army. It was established in 1952.
Banjhakri Falls, The Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park is a recreation centre and tourist attraction near Gangtok, in the state of Sikkim, India. The park’s statuary and other displays document the Ban Jhakri, or traditional shamanic healer who worships spirits living in caves around the falls.
Sikkim Himalayan Zoo, If you’re a wildlife enthusiast but you don’t have the time to explore the rich fauna of the state, then the Himalayan Zoological Park in Sikkim is your best bet. Spread over a massive 205 hectares of land, the zoo in Gangtok is teeming with a wide variety of wildlife that is usually difficult to spot in the wild. Built at an elevation ranging from 6500 feet to 8000 feet, the fact that the zoo authorities allow these animals to remain in a semi-natural habitat is worth appreciating.
Rumtek Monastery, Rumtek Monastery, also called the Dharma Chakra Centre, is a gompa located in the Indian state of Sikkim near the capital Gangtok. It is the seat-in-exile of the Gyalwang Karmapa, inaugurated in 1966 by the 16th Karmapa.
Gonjang Monastery, Gonjang Monastery is located about 6 km away from the heart of Gangtok town near Tashi View point. It is situated at 27.36908 latitude and 88.613314 at an altitude of 6066 feet. The monastery was established in the year 1981 and the founder is H.E. Tingkye Gonjang Rinpoche.
Ranka Monastery, At a distance of 8 km from Banjhakri Falls and 16 km from Gangtok, Ranka Monastery is a Buddhist monastery situated at Ranka near Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. Also known as Lingdum Monastery, it is one of the most popular monasteries in Sikkim and among the must visit places in Gangtok.Built in 1998 CE, the Ranka Monastery is the seat of Zurmang Charwang Rinpoche.
