Kalimpong west bengal / kalingpong India

Many of the educational institutions in Kalimpong, many of which were founded during the British colonial era, are well-known. Prior to China's takeover of Tibet and the Sino-Indian War, it served as a gateway for trade between Tibet and India. In the 1980s and more recently in 2010, Kalimpong and neighboring Darjeeling were important hotspots for the demand for a separate Gorkhaland state.

Among its many tourist attractions is the Kalimpong Science Centre, which was constructed by the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council in 2008. On top of Deolo Hill is the Science Center, which promotes scientific literacy among the town's schools and residents.
